i guess it helps that their moves are very sexy... but it's like "choreographed sexy". i should take their lead and choreograph my sexiness. it'd sure beat my "off the top of my head" sexiness (it's equivalent to the quality of this song. yup, THAT sad). even the guys that join up with him at 2:25 capture my attention. i wouldn't mind dancing like them either. the choreography isn't the best i've seen from an usher presentation, but still i watch. the dancers really carry this song. i think i'm in awe of the dancers' talent. props.

Brett Domino Is Cool!!!

These cats are tight a hell!!! This video plays as much as an homage to MC Hammer, Jade, BBD and other 90's videos as it does a comic peace. It has it all, background dancers, studio shots, shots on stairs and shorts that go above the navel just to name a few.

"It's Like Wow"

Let it be known, even before the incident with Rihanna, I never had an interest in Chris Brown. He's a great performer and I have put a few songs on my mixes, but I never really became a fan. He came out around the same time as Trey Songz and Bobby Valentino. So to me, he was the least talented out of the three (vocally). His songs were too "pop" for my taste.

After hearing about the Rihanna beating, I liked him even less. The Larry King interview will also not help him get any more fans (over the age of 20). If you missed it, check it out. He isn't able to articulate a lot of things so he is assisted by his mother and his attorney. When he does talk for himself, he sounds like he didn't listen to his speech coach before this interview. After viewing it, it's hard for me to feel anything other than "Wow".

Below is what a youtuber thought of the interview. For a guy who used to dress in clothes no grown man would ever wear to a guy who got his street cred for drug trafficking, this guy got some musical skills. His transition from pop artist to the r&b equivalent (with joe) of method man & redman took almost ten years (of jail time). He put out 3 solid albums between the years of 1997-2003. But his personal struggles caught up with him, with prescription drug addiction and also being stabbed in Philly, Chico was M.I.A. for more than 5 years.

Now he is back with a new LP. Under the new label Kedar Entertainment, Chico's album "Addiction" is out on the 14th of July.

As you can tell I'm a fan, but it's still hard to believe that Chico came a long way from his pop days. Don't believe me? type='text'>Keisha's Las Vegas Mix...

So here's another request mix from Keisha. My cousin Keisha. She thought the previous mix was for her. When she found out it wasn't she asked me to do one for her birthday. Being the great cousin that I am, I did.

She gave me a few perameters...
1 - Has to have "drinking songs"
2 - Has to have "dancing songs"
3 - Has to have "songs about Las Vegas"
4 - Have to Use Elvis' "Little Less Conversation"

After days of gather songs and asking people around for suggestions, I started mixing and notice that a lot of the songs in this mix would never be used in my mixes. Not that they're bad, but I just don't use certain songs. It messes with the overall vibe of the mix.

Well, Enjoy

And Happy Birthday Keisha!!!

Keisha's Las Vegas Mix...

01 Life Vegas (CNP Mix) - Murs & Slug
02 Signs (CNP Mix) - Snoop Dogg Ft. Too Short & Mista F.A.B.
34 Pop Rose - Trey Songz & Drake
35 Pass The Courvoisier II - Busta Rhymes Ft. P. Diddy & Pharrell
36 Get My Drink On - 2pac

*For some reason my program isn't letting track # 3 mix properly. At first I thought I messed up, but it turns out that it's just not rendering. I started off with over 500 tracks that would might make it to the mix. After a couple of weeks it grew into 4500+ tracks. I was half way done with my mix when I realized that it that needed to be changed. So I cut all but a third of my mixed tracks. The Final two days were easier bringing me from 72 tracks to the 34 you see.

With all that work, I have no name for it.

40 Name This Mix

01 In California - Suga Free Ft. Capone-E
This song is what got me to start this mix. It might be my least favorite song, but it does have a "summer" feel. The beat sounds somewhat generic and the hook has no life, but it stayed in because I felt that it was a good direction for the mix to start.

02 Mr. West - Dubb Union/I'm Gettin' Money (CNP Mix)- 2pac
For over a year I've been trying to find a way to this Dubb Union Track. Part of me thought it was sampled too soon (Kanye's "Heard 'Em Say"). Then I thought to myself, "The song is almost 4 years old! It isn't new anymore, it's almost 4 years old!" I dug through some of my old mashes, and found a 2pac acapella that used the Kanye instrumental and blend the 2 together.

03 When The Money Goes - Jay-Z
Not being a fan of Hov, I found this song appealing. For one, the song isn't a "standard" Jay-Z where he talks about drug, sex or money, but rather it is the lack of money that is the central topic of the song. I for one was able to relate from the get.

04 Swagger - Red Cafe, Snoop Dogg & Lynda Carter
This was a track produced by the legendary Grandmaster Flash. Really, that should be the only reason use the song. I never really liked the word "swagger". It makes me feel yuck when people use it. Almost like when people use "WTFuck" and "OMG" when they talk! Don't know why, but it does (must be getting old). Even with the title, the song is pretty smooth. Easy hook, nice verses = Good song.

05 Wasting My Minutes - Kid Cudi Ft. 88 Keys
I must admit, I wasn't a fan of Mr. Cudi when I first heard of him. His rhymes seemed too lazy to me. After his appearances on Kanye's 808 LP dropped, my interest grew. This track right here made me a fan. It's pretty funny and 88 Keys hooked him up with a really nice beat. The sample is choppy but works with the song.

06 Rockin' That Thang (The Dream Cover) - Trey Songz
If you have listened to The Dream's version, you must've figured out this dude is a one trick pony. In the hands of Trey Songz, it becomes everything it should've been. It's that song that's played before the ugly lights are turned on.

07 Beep (G-Mix) - Bobby Valentino Ft. Tha Dogg Pound
The track is all DPG. The original was above okay, but with the addition of Daz & Kurupt, it adds more of a gangsta flare to this strip club track. Daz's verse kills Kurupt's with simple lines like "She drink Patron like she drink water". Classic!

08 In Love Witcha Boy - Lloyd Banks Ft. Ron Brownz
Originally I had a Bun B track After the DPG song, but felt the mix was going a different direction than I intended. The Lloyd Banks track came to my possession just over a week ago and thought it would work better. Lloyd Banks has been quiet for a minute and seems to be in the shadow of Ron Brownz on this track. The beat has a bounce to it.

09 Hey Playa - DJ Quik & Kurupt
I wasn't feeling this song when I first heard it. The sample seemed off to me. My ears felt that there was too many things going on in the song to pay attention to it. I left the song alone and came back to it a couple hours later. The second time around I found myself drawn to the horns. This lead me to repeating the song for over 20 minutes. In the end, the song made it to the mix because it is a party jam that stands out from it type. I wasn't able catch DJ Quik's genius at first, but when you follow the horns, it will lead you the light. The sample started to fit, Quik's verses were on point, the beat was bangin', and the hook was cool. There was no way it wouldn't make it to this mix.

10 The World - Ashanti
I was never a fan of this artist. I have used some of stuff on previous mixes before, but it's been a while. This song caught my attention because beat was hitting all corners. It starts off with an East Coast feel, the second verse had the dancehall, and finishes with a West Coast beat with Ashanti singing the "California Love" hook.

11 I Don't Chase Em - Devin The Dude Ft. Snoop Dogg
When a friend introduced me to this song, I liked it right away. I didn't play is much as I thought I would, but I knew that I would use at some point. Snoop always shines in these types of songs where the beat is laid back and some of Devin's caliber is with him.

12 The Manipulation - Wale
I hear that Wale's flow is the same in every song. If that's true, then this song is pretty entertaining because he plays a nice guy and a dickhead in th same song.

13 Hood Boy - E-40 Ft. Raw Smoov
E-40 Bellafonte is still carrying the hyphy tourch in this hood ballad. UUGGHHH!!!

14 Ego Trippin' - Mya
Mya's been quiet for a while and when her album was recently released, I thought there was gonna be a good number of tracks to use. This is one of those tracks. Skip the rest of her album. She's still hot though. It also helped that I was able to bring back the "Hood Boy" instrumental (the last 16 bars of the track) to close out the song.

15 Dat New New - Kid Cudi
A friend told me if Kanye is Andy Warhol, then Kid Cudi is his Basquiat. Whether or not my friend got it from another source is not the point. The point is that it's so true. Kid Cudi has all the tools to outshine his mentor. Tracks like this show his potential.

16 Blame It - Jamie Foxx Ft. T-Pain
I for one have no feelings for this song. But when it's around me, I don't walk away from it. I hear why people like this song. Auto tune, Check. Tight beat, Check. And that other thing, Check.

17 Driving Down The Block (West Coast Remix) - Kidz In The Hall Ft. Mistah FAB
Nice song using the Dr. Dre beat this remix.

18 The Reading - Asher Roth
Most people know this cat from "I Love College". If you caught his "Greenhouse Effect" mixtape, you became an instant fan as I did. This kid raps what he knows and knows how to rap. There isn't any sign of him "trying" to be anything other than what he is. And on "The Reading", he spits heat from the jump. The Nottz beat give Asher flow freely and makes it a fun track.

19 So Easy (Remix) - Red Cafe
Tight ass remix with Anita Baker's "Caught Up In The Rapture" sample. Real smooth.

20 I Shoulda Known Better - Case
Case has been MIA since he "accidentally" shot himself in the throat. His LP came out a month ago and gives the goods. Other than Chico Debarge, I've been waiting for this LP to come out. This has Case singing a club type track. Sounds very late 90's early 2000's.

21 Hold It Against Me - Trey Songz
Trey Songz uses a line from a pick-up line. A corny line at that and makes magic. I know there are people that don't count this cat as a top r&b artist (I personally believe he is ignored because he doesn't dance and and he can actually sing), but this dude can do no wrong.

22 Chillin' - Wale Ft. Lady GaGa
Using a sample that will sound familiar with anyone who watches sports, Wale spits what he knows best, himself. Within the first couple of lines he hits with a Jay-Z'esque "You say you got a lot of whips, well, I got a lot". Lady GaGa makes it sound more mainstream than the original version, turning this underground heater into a radio jam.

23 Hard As Hell - U.G.K. Ft. Akon
I can hear this in the strip clubs now (or what everyone else calls "clubs"). The verses are on point. Neither Bun B or Pimp C outshine each other. They are equally giving the goods.

24 DJ (Stand Over There) - Mahagani Ft. The Game
1996 all over again. This is standard "I'm here in the club wearing the sexiest I can find but don't want anybody coming up to me". The Game spits a nice verse without mentioning 50.

25 Forget About You - Marsha Amrosuius
If you haven't copped her mixtape, you're missing out. Really get this if you are or aren't a fan of Floetry.

26 At The Time - Usher
This is some good sounding Usher. Don't know why he didn't anything like this on his last LP. Song feels like a mature 8701.

27 She's A Hoodrat - Bad Lucc Ft. Terrace Martin
Nice song using Kool & The Gang's "Too Hot" sample.

28 In Love With A Ho - Damani
This is just a classic warning for a rapper. Nice hook.

29 I'm Toe Up (Remix) - Problem Ft. DJ Quik, Kurupt, Terrace Martin & Snoop Dogg
Really good party song. Everyone the track spits real nice. DJ Quik flips it on his verse referencing his previous songs. Fans will catch it. Snoop does a good job adding to the hook.

30 Echo - Gorilla Zoe
If anyone caught his first LP, the dude was pretty hood. This time around, he got all emotional. Auto tune assists him in a good number of tracks and this is the best example of it. The song is real nice and the hook is very catchy. I dig it even though some might wave this off on their list.

31 Cold Shoulder (Garbs Infinite Remix) - Adele
This whole mixtape was entertaining to listen to. All the beats are sampled from her brith year. This song was already a favorite when the LP come out. So when I heard this remix, it gave it more of a head bobbin' feel for me. That was good because there is none of that on her LP.

32 Paranoid - Kanye West Ft. Kid Cudi
The only uptempo track on the 808 LP. Kid Cudi comes with the hook and “Fish stick lover” comes with simple lines that make the song easy to memorize.

33 The Fear - Lily Allen
Didn't want to use this song. It was already being heard on the radio. But after going through her album, this is the song that fit best at this point in the mix.

34 Saviour - Alicia Keys
This is a real feel good song. The arrangements are reminiscent of the Motown songs from the 60's. Her song "Teenage Love Affair" is similar that sense. Can't rave enough about this one which made it a fitting way to end this mix.

this IS for real.

so the REAL lyrics of this song are probably NOT as entertaining as what my sister and i have put together. it goes without saying that we made it even better.

picture eddie murphy playing buckwheat from his snl days.

it also makes me think of the ken li or benny lava videos on youtube.

ryan leslie has always had great beats, arrangements and even lyrics for other artists, but upon hearing his own album, he comes up short...
however, if ryan leslie has ever flexed his genius, it is right here.

(CNP, if you wanna add anything, please do.)

play the video as you read the first bit of lyrics. i dare you not to laugh!

diamonds flaming mount
peas dough maybe weight
i don't wall alone
ushed time of day
ushed another nushed
ushed on the lawn
ushed another ushed ta
you stand dog

pissed it on the wall
hand it in the things
i no funna dough
ushed out a bay
ushed another nose
ushed on the lane
oomp poompaloompa
ushed a thing

oh baby girl
i did a lananay
(yeah)
i'm tellin oh baby girl
i did a lanana-dadaday-dadaday
oh baby girl
i did a lana day day
uh
another da ba day da ba day da daaaay
Barney Stinson (an important character on the show) has a philosophy about mix cds. He points out that mixes usually have peaks where there are low and high points. Barney's mixes on the other hand start high and just rise.

This one took more than 5 months to complete. So there are a few songs that already ran its course on the radio and TV. But that doesn't take away from you getting psyched. It's 80 minutes of "Psych'atude" (at least most of it).

So, suit up! And enjoy the mix.

Also, Happy New Year!

"High Five!"

Barney Stinson's "Get Psyched Mix"

01 (The Green Hornet Theme) - Al Hirt
02 Lookin' Fly - Murs Ft. So the verses from 8-Ball & MJG didn't hit. My friend, Eddie, was creaming all of this song and told me to pay attention to (8-Ball's) third verse.

After hearing this song countless times in his room, I got used the flow and ended up liking it.

Years went by and this song came up in conversation. I realized I didn't have this song in my hard drive and neither did Eddie.

Long story short, I bought the CD (via half.com) and now i share.

Twista - In The Middle Of The Night Remix (Ft. 8-Ball & MJG)

? - first love

so there's this demo track written by johnta austin made to be a duet. so far, it's been recorded with trey songz singing the guy part, and johnta temporarily filling in the female part.

the melody of the song is very... sparkley (yeah, i can't think of a better word, but when you hear it, you'll know what sparkle sounds like). it makes the otherwise sad subject matter not so sad. the lyrics remind me of "my boo", just less sappy and more grown up. the words instantly connect to the listener. they are written in such a way that contrasts very well with the pop-y beat... which essentially draws in the ear of the r&b novices as well as the veterans.

so now, the challenge: who could you hear singing the female part and why?

i've already picked mya cuz she could adlib the melody and still keep her voice sweet like honey. cnp chose keri hilson cuz he thinks her voice would compliment the song without overpowering it.

your turn.

? With the cover being of the Pussycat Dolls, I thought nothing of it.

Then I read the top header, "Sorry, 'Pac! 33 Most overrated things in music". I checked the other copy and found out that it wasn't a typo (maybe that's why they sent me two).

I skipped to where 2pac placed and found him on the number one spot. After reading it, I found myself feeling I eager to write something.

The only way I can counter Blender's list is to put 2pac in the same light as Bruce Lee. If you watch a Bruce Lee movie now, you might not think much of it. If you compare his fight scenes to a Tony Jaa, a Jackie Chan (in his prime), or any CG enhanced martial arts movie's fight scene, you might not be impressed. But that just tells me that you might not be as technique savvy.

Bruce's fight scenes had clean hits. By that, I mean the viewer can feel every move. As if you were viewing it in real life. His charisma also carried the scenes. From the scratch of his nose to his signature roar prior to knocking someone out, these accents made his fight scenes a favorite among fans of the genre.

The same can be said about 2pac. We have our Commons, our Andre 3000s, our Nas', and our Lil' Waynes. What makes 2pac stand out from these great MCs is that he didn't carry himself as that kind of MC. He freestyled, but knew he wasn't the best. He wrote songs. You may remember a hella tight line from Lil' Wayne's "A Millie", but with 'Pac, you remembered whole verses

"Nothin' To Lose"

I thank the Lord for my many blessings
Though I'm stressin keep a vest for protection
from the barrel of a Smith & Wesson
And all my niggaz in the pen, here we go again
Ain't nothin seperatin us from a mack 10
Born in the ghetto as a hustler, older
Straight soldier, buckin at them bustaz
No matter how you try niggaz never die
We just retaliate with hate, then we multiply
See me strikin down the block hittin co'ners
Mobbin like a motherfucker livin like I wanna
Ain't no stoppin at the red lights - I'm sideways
Thug Life motherfucker criiime pays
Let the cops put they lights on - chase me nigga
Zig-zaggin through the freeway - race me nigga
In a high speed chase with the law
The realest motherfucker that you ever saw, I'm livin raw
'til they bury me don't worry me, I'm high
Livin like I ain't afraid to die (hahaha)
And you could walk a mile in my shoes
and you'd be crazy too

"Ambitionz As A Ridah"

So many battlefield scars while driven in plush cars
This life as a rap star is nothin without heart
Was born rough and rugged, addressin the mad public
My attitude was, "Fuck it," cause motherfuckers love it
To be a soldier, must maintain composure at ease
Though life is complicated, only what you make it to be
Uhh, and my ambitions as a ridah to catch her
while she hot, and horny, go up inside her
Then I spit some game in her ear, "Go to the tele hoe"
You put what money in a Benz, cause bitch I'm barely broke
I'm smokin bomb-ass weed feelin crucial
From player to player, the game's tight, the feeling's mutual
From hustlin and prayers, to breakin motherfuckers to pay-up
I got no time for these bitches, cause these hoes tried to play us
I'm on a meal-ticket mission, want a mil', so I'm wishin
Competition got me ripped, on that bullshit they stressin (boo-yaa!)
I'ma rhyme though, clown hoes like it's manditory
No guts no glory my nigga bitch got the game distorted
Now it's on and it's on because I said so
Can't trust a bitch in the bidness so I got with Death Row
Now these money hungry bitches gettin suspicious
Started plottin and plannin on schemes, to come and trick us
But Thug niggaz be on point and game tight (yeah)
Me, Syke and Bogart, wrap it up the same night
Got problems then handle it, motherfuckers see me
These niggaz is jealous cause deep in they heart they wanna be me
Uhh, yeah, and now ya got me right beside ya
Hopin you listen I catch you payin attention
to my amibitions as a ridah

Common would hit you with metaphors that make you say "Wow" from tracks like "Get 'Em High", while 2pac would tell you a story.

"Teardrops & Closed Caskets" and "Brenda's Got A Baby"

I hear Brenda's got a baby
Well, Brenda's barely got a brain
A damn shame
Tha girl can hardly spell her name
(That's not her problem, that's up to Brenda's family)
Well let me show ya how it affects the whole community
Now Brenda never really knew her moms
and her dad was a junky puttin death into his arm
It's sad, cause I bet Brenda doesn't even know
Just cause your in the ghetto doesn't mean ya can't grow
But oh, that's a thought, my own revelation
Do whatever it takes to resist the temptation
Brenda got herself a boyfriend
Her boyfriend was her cousin, now lets watch the joy end
She tried to hide her pregnancy, from her family
Who didn't really care to see, or give a damn if she
Went out and had a church of kids
As long as when tha check came they got first dibs
Now Brendas belly is gettin bigger
But no one seems ta notice any change in her figure
She's 12 years old and she's having a baby
In love with tha molester, whos sexed and crazy
And yet she thinks that he'll be with her forever
And dreams of a world with tha two of them are together, whatever
He left her and she had tha baby solo
She had it on the bathroom floor and didn't know so
She didn't know, what ta throw away and what to keep
She wrapped the baby up and threw him in the trash heep
I guess she thought she'd get away, wouldn't hear the cries
She didn't realize how much tha the little baby had her eyes
Now tha babys in the trash heep balling
Momma can't help her, but it hurts to hear her calling
Brenda wants ta run away, momma say, you makin' me lose pay
The social workers here everyday
Now Brenda's gotta make her own way
Can't go to her family, they won't let her stay
No money no babysitter, she couldn't keep a job
She tried ta sell crack, but end up getting robbed
So now what's next, there ain't nothin left ta sell
So she sees sex as a way of leavin hell
It's payin tha rent, so she really can't complain
Prostitute, found slain, and Brenda's her name, she's got a baby

If you want high flying mythic action, watch any of the "Spider-man" movies, "Hero", or "Tum Yum Goong"

But if you want some straight up action watch Bruce Lee.

If you want punchlines, swag, and metaphors, you got cats like Lil Wayne, Young Jeezy, Jay-Z, and Kanye.

But if you want heart, verses the that got a smooth flow and emotion, then you would be crazy not have 2pac in mind.

I will admit, he isn't the best lyricist, but that doesn't take away from him being one of the best rappers. He is a total package. If you look at hip hop, he has been the spark that made the Jeezys and the Games. To say that he is overrated is easy to write. Just picture yourself at present, look back at an era when the Tribes and Pharcydes were the mainstream sound, and 2pac being "overrated" would make sense. But if you play Me Against the World or 7 Day Theory now, try to tell yourself that 2pac is overrated. They're just as relevant today as they were back then. If you can agree that his albums aren't dated, you'll understand what many people who listen to his music have been feeling for over a decade.

He is the greatest. An icon. The Bruce Lee of Hip Hop.

Two Against The World: The Official Mixtape Volume 1

This was the "official mixtape" of last summer... until jane blaze and I realized that we had too many songs to put on it. One of which is the Atmosphere's "When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold" album.

As far as the albums goes, "buy it", it's really good.

There is one track that got me. It's "Yesterday". When the track starts with keys, the song sets the summery sound. The instrumental as a whole is very minimal (like the rest of the album, which is makes it different from their previous efforts). Once Slug starts spitting, I was hooked. By the end of the song, I knew this my favorite track. But since I was driving, I knew I didn't catch everything.

So I listened to it again.

This is where the song flips. At first, I thought it was a was "one of those songs" (listen to it and you'll know what I mean). During the second listen, I caught the last line. This changed the whole song.

I then listened to it for a third time.

This is where I came to the conclusion that this track is not just tight, but deserves to be posted today.

no less.

HERE'S WHAT I WROTE:

Hello Jaxon Hawks [other names omitted],

I would like to know why despite the beat promoting the Junos, I haven't heard a peep on your station about the Juno nominee Ebrahim. He's from Burnaby after all! Maybe this station should consider supporting local independent artists.
You should really check him out. Even just to say that you at least KNOW what's up with the local scene.
http://www.myspace.com/eebmusic

Peace.

... AND THIS IS WHAT I GOT IN REPLY:

From: jaxon@thebeat.com

Actually I’m well aware of his stuff, and mentioned it extensively the day the nominations were announced… thanx for listening.

- jaXon

ps – if you’re part of his camp or affiliated with him, first off… snide e-mails to people you don’t know make them even LESS interested in someone they may have never heard… secondly, tell him to send me a CD or broadcast quality mp3. Nobody in radio has a myspace account anymore. I can listen but I can’t message or play a 128 on the air.

yeah...i couldn't find a civil way to reply... and those who know me know i have a lot to say. so i blogged instead. and although i left mr. hawks' email up, i don't support you sending angry thoughts to him. he doesn't know any better. but if you have something completely different to talk to him about, i can't stop you. be sure to let me know how that goes.

i used to support this radio station, 100%. that was way back when they still needed listeners to get it on the air. they promoted themselves as being vancouver's first urban/hiphop station (it was our ONLY urban/hiphop station then, and ever). then about a year and a half later, clear channel got a hold of them and turned the station into a top 40 radio station. i could not believe my ears... so i turned off my radio. and just last year they got sold to the chum radio division. this was a small sign of hope... so after not listening to the radio for over a year, i started back on it. they're still a top 40 station so i don't listen to them a lot. but i gave it the benefit of the doubt that they'd at least be more in tune with the scene than when they were with clear channel.

and now, through their public relations skills, they've found a way to shoot down my faith in them... again.

p.s. - two words jaXon: SPELL CHECK.

and juno no?

<img style="display:block; by shawn taylor. yes, it talks of a tribe called quest’s debut album... and how it brought taylor into the world of hiphop waaaay back in 1990.

this got me thinking... what album turned me on to hiphop? don’t get this confused with one song... anyone can listen to a song on the radio and like it. but listening to a whole album is done on purpose... it takes consciousness. dedication. commitment. one listened to a whole hiphop album because one wanted to. back in grade 9, a good homegirl of mine passed me her newest tape: black sheep, a wolf in sheep’s clothing. i realized that i had never listened to something like that before. it was good. i was hooked.

and what about you? think back... it’s the album that you couldn’t stop listening to... you didn’t have the heart to skip a song, or stop it at all. where did you get it from? did you save up a month’s worth of allowance for it or “borrow” it from a sibling? and what made you listen to it in the first place? was it just cuz it was the cool thing to do or because of some innate bond you felt to the music once the beat dropped? would your life be the same if you had never listened to this album at all?... you can tell how deep this can go.

i asked a few of my friends, just out of curiosity. it’s quite interesting. as you can tell by the list, my friends’ ages vary... so don’t hate. everyone had to start somewhere.

puff daddy and the family, no way out
- believed the hype so he had to have it.

run dmc, raising hell
- heard it from an older brother.

bone thugs and harmony, creeping on ah come up
- bone thugs seen on the cali music channel (CMC).

tupac, me against the world
- picked up the album on a whim.

too short, life is too short
- on heavy rotation in an uncle’s car.

big boy, speakerboxxx
- heard from an older cousin.

public enemy, fear of a black planet
- heard from highschool friends.

the firm, the firm
- bought it because of nas, and still not knowing who nas was.

wu tang, 36 chambers
- “shadow of chessboxing” video was seen on rapcity.

Neo's mix

Here's another mix. good).

the second, i'm beautiful, is just one of my favourite "cheer you up" type of songs. definitely one to listen to when you're not feeling what your surroundings are dishing out to you.

<img style="display:block; One track that i wish would have been a single in the hay day of Death Row is a track with the Outlawz and Nate Dogg. The story is very vivid as each rapper trades off verses commenting on the actions of two friends and a girl that leads to a tragic end. Very GOOD.

This is not the version from the "Still I Rise" LP. The beat doesn't overshadow the spits from Talib. In this song, he breaks down how he feels about religion. Pretty deep. Coi Mattison and Lyfe Jennings help the song out in a simple hook and bridge. Listening to this song made me listen to the rest of the CD. And not being a Talib Kweli fan, I have to say, it's pretty good. I say it's up to par with his work in Black Star. has qualities in it that you don't find in many new songs that have been coming out lately. there's nothing catchy in the hook, and the beat doesn't overpower the song... something easily found in today's r&b scene. instead, it has a simple and clean melody going to an uptempo yet mellow beat... sounds like it'd be sorta bland, and you can see how on paper it doesn't seem to have the "it-factor" that can sell.
but listen to the lyrics. you can actually hear them. connect to them. appreciate them. remember, that's the other reason why people listen to music.

j. holiday - be with me

Josh Verdes - Save Me

For all the Happy Slip But for those who haven't heard of this guy, here's a link. It's just a video from youtube. To me, this song sounds very Hawaiian. So it surprised me when i found out that this cat is reppin' the 2 up 2 down. Don't know why I'm asking, I don't listen to the radio. But if I did, I would like this track to get a couple of spins (a day). It feels like it needs to be out there. This cat is sick. The song is GOOD. And isn't that what the radio wants? A catchy hook and nice beat. The bonus is that it is actually GOOD. Like more than just a carbon copy of a Beyonce or Chris Brown track (that wasn't a diss). Well, judge for yourself. It's been out for a while on other blogs, but i thought i'd share as well...

Trey Songz - Missing You

what's uppers?

we love music.

it doesn't matter as long as it's GOOD.

GOOD = innovative
GOOD = replay-able
GOOD = meaningful
GOOD = better than a clear channel playlist

our goal is to just perpetuate the GOOD music.

~IF YOU DON'T LIKE SOMETHING WE POST, FEEL FREE TO HIT US UP VIA EMAIL... jamanother1@gmail.com

that being said... enjoy.
